WHAT ROLE DOES ART PLAY IN YOUR LIFE?

Art is a big part of my life. I find art in the color of fall leaves and the lyrics in music. What inspires me to create art the most is my pain. Being here in Shakopee has been full of pain and my creativity is sentient!

IDENTITY STATEMENT

I see myself as vulnerable and emotional. These two things were things I never wanted to be but the more mature I got, the more I love and accept. I want to be seen for the good (light) in me and not judged for the darkness that dwells inside too. Voting for same sex marriages informed a form of equality. Marching for George Floyd informed me of a right to exist. Being incarcerated informed me that all of us are vulnerable with emotions of sameness.

INSPIRATION

The inspiration was the theme for this art cycle. It felt like a chance to create a piece in a way I wish to be seen, not as a woman or a man, but a human being. An enigma, someone who is not easily understood or doesn’t fit into boxes, really.

INSPIRATION

When I think of all the different components of one’s self, it’s continuous. We never stop shedding layers, or breaking chains. Sometimes we need our masks to cover the truth. Sky’s the limit. And it doesn’t matter how much time it takes to reach it.

The conviction that came from this killing was the inspiration. A man calling for a dead mother was the inspiration. The unjust crime was punished in a way I've never seen. In a way this country have never seen.
