Artist on the Outside

AFTI artist, Lux Thunberg, was invited to take part in the "Beauty from Ashes" Exhibition curated by Art is my Weapon featuring multiple talented artists of different disciplines who created meaningful artwork from decommissioned gun parts collected in a 2022 "Quick Connect" Buy Back program developed to get weapons off of the streets of Minnesota.

Art is My Weapon has been able to engage the public, community leaders, organizations, elected officials, the media, etc. in respectful nonpartisan conversations around gun violence that ultimately lead to greater public awareness, conscientious community action, and responsible solutions to reducing gun violence. Lux joined Art from The Inside while she was at the correctional facility in Shakopee in 2022. She was determined to keep her passion for art alive even while incarcerated, and when she found out that her art was displayed in the Weisman Art Museum, it only fueled her motivation further. Currently, Lux uses her skills at a bakery for work and enjoys spending quality time with her loved ones in her free time. She loves to draw and paint, and she finds it therapeutic to immerse herself in her artwork. Above all, Lux believes in the power of humanity and her higher power. She hopes to continue her life's journey through art, love, and connection.
